Video Games in the News

I found two articles this morning that were pretty interesting regarding gaming:

The first plays off of the post below, regarding social gaming and Facebook. Zynga, the company responsible for Words With Friends, CityVille, and the like, plans to create it’s own independent website to “create a brand outside of Facebook.”

The second article ties into the first individual project I recently wrote, exploring the effects mobile gaming is having on the video game industry.

Enjoy!

It seems Zynga is on the right track with this plan. The mistake a lot of companies make is sticking with something that is working for too long. Although it would seem like a great idea to stick with Facebook (there has been rumors of it going public eventually, etc.) it is definitely in Zynga’s best interest to make themselves their own entity. They have used Facebook for exactly what they needed: Exposure. They seem to know that it is time to thank Zuckerberg and move on. Hopefully (for them) that is the case.
